Centrifuges are used for liquid/particle separation and operate by rotating a liquid at a high speed, forcing denser particles to the outside of the centrifuge. This process is called sedimentation. Centrifuges can also incorporate a filter or screen to capture solid particles. Continuous filtration centrifuges can be: pusher centrifuges, scroll/screen centrifuges, conical basket centrifuges, or screen bowl decanters. Batch filtration centrifuges can be: vertical basket centrifuges, peeler centrifuges, or inverting filter centrifuges. Continuous sedimentation centrifuges can be: solid bowl decanter centrifuges, disk bowl centrifuges, or tubular centrifuges. Batch sedimentation centrifuges can be: perforated basket centrifuges or tubular centrifuges.
